It is so amazingly scary how the Meles government is moving so fast in shutting up the ever tightening political space that has been opened up during the 2005 election. While many were holding tight hoping for a better day, we rather witness another intimidation and another imprisonment every passing day. It seems now that the cup is getting full. Almost everyone-including the most ardent advocates of peaceful struggle- seem to realize EPRDF is leaving no space open for peaceful struggle (read here).
We have no doubt that the people in Andinet party are one of the brightest and capable politicians Ethiopia has ever had. We also have no doubt about the love they have for their country and their willingness to sacrifice for the freedom of their fellow citizens. In ideal situations, we also agree with them that peaceful struggle should be the only way to change governments. But EPRDF is no ideal government for peaceful struggle. Meles and Co are bunch of thugs who have no regard for human rights and their own constitution. They have shown us time and again that any dissent can't go unpunished sooner or later (remember Teddy Afro’s case).
We highly recommend for our fellow opposition supporters to stop dividing along party lines. We should stand together against the ever worsening injustice in Ethiopia. Even when we disagree, let us disagree graciously.
Ethiopianbloggers stuff hopes that most people will stand with Ginbot 7 realizing the dire situation Ethiopia is in. EPRDF left us no option but to fight for our freedom and Ginbot 7 is, we believe, the only viable option to get our freedom and dignity back.
Let us get involved, as this is no time to sit idle and complain!

GUILTY!!!
After more than 7 months of languishing in prison the popular music icon Teddy Afro is "Found Guilty" of the hit and run charges. The Teddy's case is another proof that we don't have independent court system and the country's justice system is being used as a cover to the Meles government's deviant political game. Sentencing is scheduled for this friday, December 5, 2008.

A Heartbreaking Story
This is an unbelievably heartbreaking story of what is happening to street children-'godana tedadariwoch'- in Addis. We wonder what the multi-million NGOs who claim to work on street children’s cause doing while all this is happening. What happened to our sense of humanity-'sebawint'? Why is that our elite seem to care more about business than doing what is right?
It is so distressing!

The Amazing Haile Gebresilassie Did It Again
Haile Gebrselassie broke the marathon world record in Berlin on Sunday (Sept 28,08), posting an official time of two hours, four minutes and 26 seconds.
The 34-year-old Ethiopian beat the mark of 2:04:55 set by Kenya's Paul Tergat in Berlin in September 2003. Gebrselassie was already 32 seconds inside Tergat's pace at the 10km mark and went through halfway at 62.29.
"This is wonderful, really special," said Gebrselassie, who missed the record by 61 seconds in the 2006 race.
The mild weather conditions were almost ideal, with overcast skies for most of the race.
"Today it was perfect," he added. "It was a little bit windy, but perfect. The spectators were great and gave me great support."
The fast, flat course wound through nine districts of the German capital with a total inclination of just 30m.
Last year, Gebrselassie had faded in the final six kilometres in the face of a stiff headwind but this year the race organisers made sure there were enough pacesetters to take him through the 30km point.
Gebrselassie won four successive world titles and over 10,000m and set numerous world records on the track before turning to road racing late in his career.
Gete Wami of Ethiopia won the women's race in a time of 2:23.17.

Life in Addis/Ethiopia After 17 Years of Meles
If it was as we were told by EPRDF propagandists for years, Ethiopia would have been exporting electricity to Sudan and the entire east Africa. If it was as Meles' promise, every citizen would have been able to eat three times a day 7 years ago. But the reality is now, after 17 years of Meles, Addis residents are still taking turns for electricity and millions of Ethiopians are starving every five years. Read this article by Fortune's columnist Lulit Amdemariam.

Engineer Hailu Pulled out from a Radio Interview
Engineerr Hailu has reportedly pulled out from a radio interview he was booked to discuss "the complex politics of Ethiopia." The reason, as explained later by his representative, Dr. taye, was "he didn't want to discuss the party's internal issues on the show-which was not the purpose of the interview to begin with. But the show host said the engineer pulled out because he didnt want to appear on the same station Berhanu is on-even berhanu was scheduled to appear on a different segment via telephone. How absurd is that!!!!

Oops, He Did It Again!!!
Yeah, it was Dr Berhanu and his group that was the target of Ato Bedru's venomous attack since september 2007. But now Eng. Hailu is also included in his attack list.Just months ago, he was on various diaspora media outlets and townhall meetings trying to convince audiences how GREAT Eng. Hailu is-listen to this and this-( and, ofcourse, how evil Dr berhanu and his group are). Those days are gone now, friends. These time he attacks kinijit (the party) in general and Ato Hailu and Dr Taye in particular. Read it here for yourself.

Discussing the Real Issue
The discussion in and around the opposition camp has been on trivial matters for too long. Saddly enough, we haven't heard as much on issues that really matter in moving the struggle forward.Recently we came across a really interseting writing by Andargachew Tsige that is monumental in steering the discussion in the direction we all need to head. We need our elits to do some thinking and pitch in their ideas.
